Brief Description of Instrument – Assesses impact of rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and its treatment on patients, and their response to these impacts.

Administration time – Approximately 6 minutes.

Scale Format – Yes/no.

Administration Technique – Self-administered questionnaire.

Factors and Norms – Mean, SD and range of scores reported in original citation.

Test-retest Reliability – Spearman rank correlation 0.90-0.94 after 14 day interval.

Internal Consistency – Ranges from 0.92-0.94.

Construct Validity – Found to discriminate between groups with various disease activity and severity. Correlations found with Nottingham Health Profile between quality of life, physical mobility, energy level and pain.

Content & Face Validity – Instrument developed using needs-based model by Hunt and McKenna. Items derived from qualitative interviews with patients with RA. The selection of items for inclusion in the instrument reflected the frequency with which issues were raised by the interviewees.
